6 Lies Satan will use to get you to fall

Let’s expose Satan shall we? The bible describes him as the father of lies. God warns us to, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour,” (1 Peter 5:8). When the enemy decides to attack you, he’s not going to charge at you with a pitchfork like it’s portrayed on TV. Instead he’s going to come disguised as someone just like you, or even worse, he will invade your thoughts. Satan will try to speak words into your mind and trick you into thinking it’s your own thoughts—this is how temptation works.

 Secrets fuel Satan and transparency destroys him. For that reason, don’t be embarrassed to share the struggles you’ve faced. I guarantee you there are many others who went through the same thing. One of the Hebrew translations of Satan's name is accuser, and that’s exactly what he does, he accuses. He tempts you to get you to stumble, and when you fall, he points a finger at you and makes you feel like you are the scum of the earth. Jesus Christ is Lord and yet he was beaten, tortured, nailed to the cross and left to die like the scum of the earth, all to rid us of that feeling after we sin.

Proverbs 28:13: He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.

I struggled with a pornography addiction. It became a cycle for me. One moment I was doing great, praising God, and the next moment Satan tempted me, I fell, and I felt like I was back at square one. I have fell so many times that God began to show me the tactics Satan used to get me to fall and He told me to write them down. So here are 6 lies Satan will whisper in your mind to get you to fall into temptation.

Lie #1: “Everybody is doing it, so why can’t you do it a few times?”

 

 

The devil used this lie constantly to get me to fall. God tells us we cannot do what the world does. You are holy because He is holy. Our bodies are our temples and Satan wants us to defile it. He wants us to bed hop, drink, smoke, masturbate, use drugs, and all kinds of things. Every time we take part in those things we are messing up the body that God loaned to us. Our bodies are not our own. You have so much more at stake than others, so you can’t do what others are doing!

Romans 12:2: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

1 Peter 2:9: But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

1 Corinthians 6:19: Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.

Lie #2: “God is going to forgive you anyway. So go right ahead and do it!”

Yes it is true that Jesus died for our sins so that we may be forgiven. But that doesn’t mean throw in the towel in the fight against temptation. We must try our best to resist. Don’t get me wrong, I know all about addiction. I know the struggle of trying your best to resist but falling anyway. I’ve been there again and again. However there’s a difference between stumbling into a pool and diving into a pool. Actively resist sin. If that means going for a walk so you won’t look at that pornography site, then do it. If it means calling a friend to get your mind off of the urge to get high, then do it!

Matthew 5:30: And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

Lie #3: “Are you kidding me? You are going to let that person treat you like that?”
 

Have you ever tried to calm yourself down when something upsets you but you couldn’t help but hear that voice in your head arousing your anger? You begin to replay the situation over and over in your mind and think about all the things you should have said. “People just don’t know who they are messing with because I was about two steps off of them!” Ignore these type of thoughts! It’s Satan’s way of arousing your anger and getting you to start clowning. Don’t let him get you to take it there. You don’t know who is around you. We are to represent God at all times! (Every time I say that it makes me want to get in line). Be the graceful woman God has called you to be.

Matthew 5:39: But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.

Proverbs 21:19: Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife.

Proverbs 14:29: Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.

 Lie #4: “You can do it as long as you don’t go too far. It will only be one time anyway.”

Oh this lie used to really throw me off. Satan would say “Just visit one site and stop. Then you will get the urge out of your system and move on.” Wrong! An open door is all Satan needs. Once you open yourself up to temptation, it isn’t long before it festers into something worse. Once again, you have so much more at stake! You have ministries on the line. One moment of sin would be your last moment if it were up to Satan. So don’t give him the satisfaction.

 Lie #5:You can sin righteously!

There is no right way to sin. This sounds pretty obvious, but you’ll be surprised at how many times we fall to this one. This is one of Satan’s most common lies. This is the category where the often misused line, “God knows my heart” belongs. The best way to serve God is through obedience. 

Romans 5:19: For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
God doesn’t tell us not to do things because He drew them out of a hat and decided it’s wrong. He knows the dangers behind it. Who are we to think we can walk into fire and not be burned? The only reason we are not consumed today is because of God’s protection. So if God is telling us to stay away, let us be wise and take His advice. Satan knows that the moment you cross into an area God tells you not to, it’s an open game. You cannot withstand Satan’s attacks without God.
We can’t serve God any old way. We have to constantly check with God to make sure we’re are in His will because Satan is looking for ways to derail us. Even if our intentions are well, we must be on God’s track. Fortunately we serve a transparent God. He made it quite clear in terms of what we should and shouldn’t do. And if that isn’t enough, we can just ask Him! Isn’t God great?

Matthew 6:24: No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Deuteronomy 12:31
You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates.

Matthew 5:37: All you need to say is simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

Lie #6: Temptation=sin

Many times Satan will try to tempt you and when you resist, he then tries to make you feel guilty for being tempted in the first place! He wants your guilt to drive you away from God so it will be easier for your flesh to be aroused.

This is a common lie Satan will use to get you to fall off after you have had an encounter with God. It’s retaliation. So here’s a typical rundown. You go to church or whatever the case is, the point is you had some kind of encounter with God. You laid all your cards on the table and you asked God, “Please help me with my struggle with _________.” Jesus released you of that burden and you go into a praise. You feel great! Satan hates it. So he then comes to you and tries to tempt you with the same struggle you just prayed about! It discourages you because you think, “I must really be messed up! How could I be thinking about that when I asked God to remove it from my spirit?” You begin to doubt if God really removed it. Or maybe you begin to think you can’t be helped. The devil is a liar!  As long as we have a pulse, we will have to deal with temptation. Jesus Christ was tempted by Satan.
Temptation isn’t guilt. Jesus didn’t give into the temptation. Think of temptation as Satan’s words in your ear. There’s a difference between speaking and persuading. Just because Satan is speaking to you by dangling your struggles in your face doesn’t mean you’re guilty of anything. Just don’t let him persuade you. Satan can only persuade you if you give into the temptation.

The Truth:

Satan not only accuses you of sinning, but he also makes you feel hopeless and worthless because of it. What really upsets me is through media Satan has flipped things around and makes it appear that it is Christians who accuse and discourage. Not true! Anyone truly aligned with God’s word actually see themselves in those lost in sin. God reminds us of what we went through and are going through and God tells us to love and encourage that person. Being a Christian isn’t about being perfect. In fact it's about admitting you're not perfect every single day. It’s about humbleness. It’s about not being comfortable with sin and instead calling out to God every single day. Most of all it’s about love. Don’t let Satan convince you that it’s over because you fell! God loves your effort. He sees you for who you are going to be and says it’s worth more than your sin. Think of it like this: God loves you, and there’s nothing you can do to change that. His love endures forever!
